EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A man from Mexico was recently arrested in El Paso after he allegedly re-entered the U.S. illegally, according to the United States Attorney’s Office from the Western District of Texas.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office says Jose Juan Garcia Tiro has a “violent criminal record” and was determined to be in the U.S. illegally upon his recent arrest.
On April 23, 2015, Garcia Tiro had been previously removed from the U.S. and in 2007 he was convicted in Ocean, New Jersey for sexually assaulting a minor. He was sentenced to eight years in prison, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Currently, Garcia Tiro is facing a charge of illegal re-entry. He was ordered to be detained without bond this past Monday, Feb. 10.
If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison. U.S. Border Patrol is investigating the case.
