EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — It’s Mutt Monday at KTSM!
This week, our friends from El Paso Animal Services brought Shauntel for us to meet and hang out with!

July 15 marks Pet Fire Safety Day, which is a reminder to protect your furry family in case of a fire!
Approximately 500,000 pets are affected by house fires each year. Pets, particularly cats and dogs, can also accidentally start fires. An estimated 1,000 house fires annually are attributed to pet-related incidents.
El Paso Animal Services gave us some ways you can be prepared in case of an emergency:
- Include pets in your escape plan – Practice evacuating with them so you know how they will respond.
- Pet-proof your home – Keep pets away from open flames, stove knobs, and electrical cords they might accidentally bump or chew.
- Use window clings – Place a pet alert sticker on windows to let firefighters know how many pets are inside. You can get one for free at ASPCA.org or you can purchase them at your local pet stores.
- Keep leashes ready, in an accessible place – This makes it easier to evacuate quickly in an emergency.
- Always ensure your pets are wearing collars with ID tags and that your pets are microchipped so that they’re easily identified. If you need free microchipping services, visit ElPasoAnimalServices.org to see their monthly free microchipping events!
El Paso Animal Services and KTSM are ready to help you find your perfect match!
