EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Two newly elected members and two members who were re-elected on May 3 were sworn in Tuesday, May 13, at a special board meeting of the El Paso Independent School District Board of Trustees.
New members Mindy Sutton and Robert Osterland, and re-elected board members Leah Hanany and Jack Loveridge, were sworn in.
During the meeting, the board also elected new officers: Hanany as president; Loveridge as vice president; and Alex Cuellar as secretary.
“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Trustees Leah Hanany and Jack Loveridge on their re-election, as well as to newly elected Trustees Mindy Sutton and Robert Osterland,” Superintendent Diana Sayavedra said.
“I look forward to working collaboratively with our board as we embrace opportunities and address challenges to continue to strengthen the district for our students, families, and community,” Sayavedra said.
The superintendent also said she had “deep gratitude” for outgoing Trustees Israel Irrobali and Isabel Hernandez, who were defeated for re-election.
“I want to thank Board President Irrobali and Trustee Hernandez for their years of dedicated service to our students, families, and community,” Sayavedra said. “We wish them both the very best in their future endeavors.”
EPISD will face some important decisions as it addresses what it calls a $23 million budget shortfall for the 2025-26 school year.
“We are committed to academic excellence, transparency and fiscal accountability as we move forward,” Sayavedra said. “Strong leadership from our Board of Trustees is essential as we work together to build a sustainable, student-centered future for our district.”
