EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A portion of New Mexico Highway 28 is closed after a two-vehicle crash involving a semitruck on Wednesday afternoon, May 21, according to Doña Ana County.
Just before 11:30 a.m. on May 21, Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Office and fire crews responded to the crash at the intersection of NM 28 and Carver Road in San Pablo, roughly five miles outside of Las Cruces.

According to Doña Ana County, a semi truck was involved in the crash that was carrying sulfuric acid, which is deemed a hazardous material.
The sulfuric acid was spilled onto the roadway following the crash and resulted in the roadway being closed to traffic, and power was shut off in the area, according to Doña Ana County.
Two people were hurt with minor injuries, Doña Ana County said.
NM 28 is closed in both directions at Mile Marker 26, San Pablo, the County said.
In addition, officials are asking residents to stay away from the area. Local businesses and schools have been notified of the incident and are requested to shelter in place, according to Doña Ana County.
