EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — New Mexico families who depend on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will receive 100 percent of their benefits for November, according to the news release by Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham’s Office.
“Yesterday, after receiving guidance from the USDA, New Mexico sent full November SNAP benefits to all eligible New Mexicans,” Lujan Grisham said. “We won’t stand by while the President works to deny food to hungry children, families and seniors.”
This comes after a series of back-and-forth court issues that have not been resolved, with the latest being a temporary halt on full SNAP payments from Justic Kentani Brown Jackson.
Despite court issues, $30 million in state funding was allocated in October. The Health Care Authority distributed the state-funded food benefits that would help families through about the first 10 days of November. The funding is separate from federal SNAP money.
Eligible residents will see the food benefits on their EBT cards on their regular issuance date, the news release read.
Here are some important items that eligible SNAP families should be aware of:
- Families will receive their full November SNAP benefit on their regular issuance date, or on Nov. 8 if their benefit is issued Nov. 1-8.
- Families can use the funds loaded on EBT cards.
- Please use the ebtEDGEmobile.com app to check your card balance.
- New Mexicans should continue applying for benefits at YES.NM.GOV, by calling 1-800-283-4465, or visiting any HCA or visiting any HCA Income Support Division office location provided here.
“We cannot leave New Mexicans at the mercy of federal dysfunction,” Lujan Grisham said. “This special session will give us the tools to feed families if Republicans in Congress fail them again. We’re not waiting around to find out.”
According to Lujan Grisham’s Office, about 460,000 New Mexicans rely on SNAP benefits, and the program generates up to $1.80 in local economic benefits for every SNAP dollar spent.
