KTSM News – New virtual marketplace aims to empower El Paso businesses

Posted on November 25, 2024

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – Aiming to support the El Paso community, Coffee Box will launch a new innovative online marketplace for local vendors and artisans to showcase their products and services, the coffee shop announced in a news release.

Shop Local El Paso, which is set to launch in December, will make it easier for residents to support local businesses and discover the diverse talents within the El Paso community. The platform will offer a wide range of locally made products, from handcrafted goods to specialty foods, all available under one “virtual roof.”

“This project has been a labor of love, and we’re thrilled to see it come to life,” Nahum Avila, founder of Shop Local El Paso said. “Our mission is to empower local vendors by giving them a platform to reach a broader audience, all while keeping money within our community. With Shop Local El Paso, we’re creating a space where local creativity and entrepreneurship can thrive.”

The marketplace is dedicated exclusively to small local vendors.

Vendors can create their own online storefronts for free, complete with business details, product images, descriptions, and a “buy now” button. This allows them to sell directly to customers without the overhead of a physical booth, according to the news elease.

The marketplace also features innovative delivery options through local businesses acting as “delivery hubs.”

For example, a customer could choose Crumble Cookies as a pickup location for their purchase. This approach not only provides convenience for buyers but also drives foot traffic to participating local businesses.

The following are some key points to know about the marketplace as provided by the news release:

Why Shop Local El Paso?

100% local focus: Built by locals, for locals, the platform exclusively supports small businesses in the El Paso community.

Increased visibility: Vendors gain exposure across El Paso and beyond through extensive marketing efforts, including social media campaigns, email marketing, and features on local platforms.

Wide promotion: The platform also serves as a hub for local activities, promoting events, announcing upcoming markets, showcasing new local shops, and featuring seasonal deals such as Christmas specials.

Community support: It’s an opportunity to rally friends, family, and customers to support local businesses while boosting the local economy.

How does it work?

The platform streamlines the process for both vendors and customers.

Vendors can sign up and set up their online store at no cost, while customers enjoy the convenience of discovering unique local goods from one central marketplace.

The platform also offers a simple delivery system through local businesses serving as pickup points, ensuring a seamless shopping experience.

A call to vendors and local businesses

The platform is currently inviting local vendors to join at no cost and participate in the beta phase.

By signing up, vendors can prepare their storefronts before the official launch and benefit from increased exposure during the initial promotional push.

Local businesses interested in becoming delivery hubs or partners are also encouraged to get involved and support this initiative.
