EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — New Mexico State Police issued nearly 1,000 traffic citations during a special enforcement operation over the Christmas holiday and made nine arrests for DWI across the state, they said in a news release issued on Monday, Dec. 30.
During the Christmas holiday, the New Mexico State Police participated in the Combined Accident Reduction Effort (C.A.R.E.) operation, which was implemented across all roadways in the state.
“The initiative aims to enhance motorist safety and decrease the number of crashes by maintaining a strong law enforcement presence,” New Mexico State Police said in a news release.
The special operation was held from Dec. 24 through Dec. 26 in all 12 State Police districts.
State Police said among the citations they issued, 31 were for failure to wear seat belts.
Officers also investigated 21 crashes and the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Bureau conducted 11 commercial vehicle inspections.
“The New Mexico State Police prioritize motorist safety, and officers will continue to conduct holiday travel operations into the new year. NMSP encourages the public to drive safely and follow all traffic laws while traveling on New Mexico’s roadways,” New Mexico State Police said.
