EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A man was arrested this week after attempting to steal an electric bicycle at the Branson Library on the New Mexico State University (NMSU) campus, the university’s police announced via their Instagram.
NMSU Police said that on Wednesday, June 18, officers responded to a report of a suspicious man tampering with a bike at the library.
Jonathan Reyes was found by officers attempting to steal an electric bicycle valued at around $1,500, NMSU Police said.
NMSU Police said Reyes was charged with attempted larceny, criminal damage to property, and concealing identity. He is also the suspect in several other scooter thefts on campus over the last year.
In addition, Reyes was served with an indefinite trespass directive for all NMSU-owned property, according to NMSU Police.
“We would like to thank the caller who promptly reported Reyes to the police department,” read the post by NMSU.
