EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Opera UTEP will host its annual ¡CELEBRACIÓN! Hispanic Heritage Concert, an event designed to honor the rich musical tradition of Hispanic composers.
The event will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26 at the UTEP Fox Fine Arts Recital Hall. Admission is free and open to anyone.
The program features singers from UTEP’s Opera Workshop class under the direction of Cherry Duke, director of opera, with Esequiel Meza Jr. at the piano.

This year’s concert highlights guest artist Levi Hernandez, a baritone and an El Paso native whose career includes performances with the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, and Houston Grand Opera.
Hernandez will play the leading role of Marcello in El Paso Opera’s presentation of the opera “La Boheme” in January and February.
“¡CELEBRACIÓN! is one of our favorite traditions at Opera UTEP,” Duke said. “It’s an opportunity for our students to perform alongside world-class artists while sharing the beauty and diversity of Hispanic musical voices with the El Paso community.”
