RUIDOSO, N.M. (KTSM) — The mother and father of the two children who were killed in the Ruidoso flash flood on Tuesday, July 8, are recovering after they sustained serious injuries during the flood, the family said.
The family says the mother, Stephanie Trotter, was released from the hospital over the weekend and is “tender and resting.”
Father, Sebastian Trotter, is beginning to recover, and his surgeries have “gone well so far.” He remains hospitalized, but will soon be taken to a specialized rehabilitation facility where he’ll focus on rebuilding his strength and mobility, the family said in an updated post.
The couple’s dog, Lily, who survived the floodwaters, is also home and healing with Stephanie Trotter, according to the family.
The family says they have received overwhelming support and reached their goal to raise money to pay for memorial services and lost assets on GoFundMe.
“I am overwhelmed with gratitude to share that, thanks to several thousand generous hearts, we have reached our $200,000 goal. Your incredible support is already making a life-changing difference for Sebastian and his wife Stephanie as they begin their long road to healing and toward honoring the beautiful memories of little Sebastian Rowan and Charlotte Emery,” the family said.

As KTSM 9 News has previously reported, 7-year-old Sebastian Rowan and 4-year-old Charlotte Emery Trotter were killed during the flood in Ruidoso. They are a Fort Bliss family, according to the Army post.
Along with the siblings, two of the three family dogs, Zeus and Ellie, also died. The parents, Stephanie and Sebastian Trotter, and their dog Lily survived, the family said.
