EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — An El Paso man is facing a charge of murder after killing another man while driving intoxicated in East El Paso early Thursday morning, March 28, according to El Paso Police.
Police say at around 12 a.m., on Thursday, March 28, Enrique Joel Pena, 35, was traveling south on George Dieter in a Nissan Rouge.
Police say Pena rear-ended a Chevrolet Metro which was being driven by Isidro Ruiz Jr., 42, from Fabens.
Police say Ruiz was stopped at an intersection when he was rear-ended by Pena.
Police say Ruiz died at the scene and Pena suffered minor injuries.
Officers at the scene determined that Pena was intoxicated and said he was committing a felony while driving intoxicated that night.
The Special Traffic Investigations unit was requested at the scene shortly after the crash.
Pena was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility with a charge of murder under a $650,000 bond.
According to court records, Pena was previously convicted of DWI-related misdemeanor charges in 2012 and in 2014.
