EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A person was arrested after entering Jose H. Damian Elementary school without authorization on Wednesday, Sept. 25, and used aggressive language towards staff, which led the school to initiate safety protocols, according to Canutillo ISD.
The school district says an authorized individual entered the campus on Wednesday about an hour after students were released.
While most children were already home, students in the ACE program were still in session, the school district said.
The individual used aggressive language towards staff, prompting officials to initiate safety protocols on campus. The person then left the building without physically harming anyone, the school district said.
Canutillo ISD Police were contacted, and they requested assistance from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).
DPS was then able to locate the subject and arrested him on several charges, including making threats against a school.
The school district has also launched its own investigation into how the individual was able to enter the school.
While students were not affected directly, counselors will be available to any student or staff member who may need support, the school district said.
“We take the safety and security of our students and staff very seriously, and we will continue working diligently to determine additional steps to further protect our schools. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.”
