EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A group of local citizens filed a petition to have a member from the Canutillo Independent School District (ISD) board removed on Wednesday, May 22, according to court records obtained by KTSM.
The petition was filed Wednesday afternoon asking for the immediate removal of Armando Rodriguez from the CISD Board of Trustees due to his previous arrest record of driving while intoxicated in El Paso County, according to court records.
The petition states Rodriguez has been arrested at least three times for driving while intoxicated since his election into the board in 2005.
The petition also states that Rodriguez allegedly had his attorney try to expunge and clear his record so that the court records would be hard to find, according to court records.
The petition also gave a timeline of Rodriguez’s arrest, stating that his first arrest was on Sept. 26, 2013, his second arrest was around January 2015, and his third arrest was on Dec. 12, 2021.
The petition also states that after Rodrguez’s third arrest, he was required to have DWI supervision and a camera ignition interlock device installed in any vehicle that he currently drives, according to court records.
