KTSM News – Pina Peak fire in Doña Ana County at 25% containment

Posted on May 20, 2025

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A fire burning in the Organ Mountains Desert Peaks National Monument is 25 percent contained and fire officials have also downsized their estimate of how large the fire is, they said in an update on Tuesday, May 20.

The Pina Peak fire, burning about 8 miles south of Hatch in Doña Ana County, is now estimated to be 116 acres, the Bureau of Land Management’s Las Cruces District reported. It was estimated to be 200 acres on Monday.

The fire is believed to have been caused by lightning over the weekend. It is burning at the top of the slope of Pina Peak, the BLM said.

Crews continue to work to secure the firelines, BLM reported.

We will update this story when we learn more.
