EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Horizon Police Department gave out several citations this past Saturday, April 12 for underage drinking after officers broke up a large party in Horizon City, according to the Horizon City Police Department.
Police say they responded at around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday to a reported disturbance at the 15000 block of Ashford Street in Horizon.
Upon arrival, officers saw several juveniles fleeing the area including a juvenile male who discarded what appeared to be a handgun.
The item was recovered and identified as a black BB gun. Other juveniles were detained at the scene and multiple foot pursuits were initiated.
Officers contacted the owner of the residence who stated that the unit was being rented out as a short-term rental to a guest who was later identified by police.
The owner of the residence told police that parties are strictly prohibited. Officers entered the apartment and saw several empty liquor bottles, Twisted Tea cans, and a THC vape cartridge.
Citations for consumption of alcohol by a minor and possession of alcohol of a minor were then issued and the juveniles involved were released with no further incident.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office also assisted in the incident.
The Horizon Police Department says adults who provide alcohol to minors may face criminal charges under Texas law.
The Police Department also urges property owners and rental owners to ensure their properties are being used responsibly. Anyone with information on a similar incident should contact the department at (915) 852-1047.
