EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — El Paso Police are confirming that the man who died after an incident Sunday afternoon, April 14, in South-Central El Paso was an “in-custody death.”
The Police Department also said that 35-year-old Jonathan Rose Eddens died during the incident.
The “critical incident,” as the Police Department called it, happened at 3:15 p.m. along the 3300 block of Alameda. They initially said that the man was running in and out of traffic and died after he was taken to the hospital.
Video from bystanders showed police chasing after the man and subduing him on the ground.
The incident is being investigated by the Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit, the Texas Rangers and the Internal Affairs Division.
“The investigation is ongoing, and details are limited at this stage. We are committed
to transparency and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
We appreciate the public’s patience and understanding during this time,” the police said in a news release.
