EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – The Sunland Park Planning and Zoning Commission voted to postpone any plans to approve the construction of two cannabis dispensaries during a meeting on Wednesday evening, April 9.
One of the proposed dispensaries is called Station X, and according to records, it would be located at 420 Emory Dr. in Sunland Park, New Mexico.
The two-story venue will not only have a dispensary but also have an “indoor consumption lounge” and will deal with not just cannabis but also alcohol.
The owner of the lot where the venue would potentially be built told commissioners that they’ve complied with state laws.
“We have worked with the New Mexico alcoholic beverage commission and cannabis commission to design this property in conformance with all state regulations. We designed it. We had modifications. We had feedback,” the owner said.
The other proposed dispensary is called Cronica, and according to records, the plan is to build it at 3801 Emory Dr., on the same street.
Some who oppose the projects said these spaces will be very close to the Texas state line, where cannabis is illegal.
“What we have here is a potential cannabis and consumption lounge opening that will require people to go through Texas roads. If the police start sitting out there, it’s going to place a large bad light on the city, on the cannabis programs, on the state,” a representative of the Sunland Park Cannabis Coalition said.
