EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – Project BRAVO received a $150,000 grant from Wells Fargo to support the new AguaEsperanza Project, the nonprofit announced Wednesday, Aug. 14 in a news release.
The grant will enable the Project BRAVO to distribute hydropanels to 11 families in the Hueco Tanks community, ensuring that access to clean drinking water is no longer a daily struggle, according to the nonprofit.
“Hydropanels, an advanced technology designed by SOURCE Global, harvest drinking water from the atmosphere using solar power,” read the news release. “The technology has been available for years in other parts of the world and is a proven solution to providing safe and delicious drinking water to households that are not connected to a municipal water source.”
The nonprofit said the hydropanels use solar power and do not need to be connected to an electrical source to work.
Each hydropanel collects enough water for drinking and cooking to meet the needs for two adults. Once collected, the hydropanels add minerals to the water for taste and the reservoir is connected to a designated faucet in the household’s kitchen sink, according to the nonprofit.
“The collaboration between Wells Fargo, SOURCE Global, and Project BRAVO underscores the power of partnerships in driving positive change and fostering resilient communities,” said Laura Ponce, the executive director for Project BRAVO.
Low-Income residents of Hueco Tanks may contact Project BRAVO at (915) 562-4100 ext. 350 or Commissioner Carlos Leon’s office at (915) 546-2014 to be placed on an interest list.
Individuals must apply for services from Project BRAVO to determine eligibility for the free hydropanels that will be installed on their land and become property of the participant.
