EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A 32-year-old man has been arrested after fleeing law enforcement in New Mexico and ending up in El Paso County, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said.
Javier Antonio Monzon, 32, was arrested Friday morning, July 25 and was charged with one count of evading arrest or detention with a vehicle, the Sheriff’s Office said.
At about 5:30 a.m. on Friday, Sheriff’s Office helped New Mexico State Police and the Anthony Police Department with a vehicle pursuit that crossed into Texas.
The suspect, wanted in connection with a robbery and aggravated fleeing incident in New Mexico, entered El Paso County traveling eastbound on Interstate 10, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office and Constable’s Office for Precinct 1 joined the pursuit and assisted in safely stopping the vehicle on I-10 East near the Eastlake exit.
The driver, identified as Monzon, was taken into custody and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility.
Monzon also faces extradition to New Mexico for charges related to the original incident.
“This arrest is proof of what can be accomplished when law-enforcement agencies work together,” Sheriff Oscar Ugarte said. “If you break the law in El Paso County, the Sheriff’s Office will take you to jail.”
