EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Thanks to Raiz Federal Credit Union’s High Spirit Debit Cards program, local high schools and essential community initiatives are receiving over $188,000.
Since 2019, this program has given cardholders the chance to support the schools and organizations they care about and empower the El Paso community.
With every non-PIN transaction made using a Spirit Debit Card, Raiz contributes $0.05 to the cardholder’s chosen local high school or organization. Additionally, Raiz matches the donation to an organization during its first three years in the program.
“The enthusiastic participation from the community has turned everyday purchases into a powerful means of support for school programs and local organizations,” Max Villaronga, president and CEO of Raiz FCU, said. “We envision a community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive, especially our children. This initiative is about making a meaningful difference in the lives of those who need it most.”
Pearl Contreras, community engagement officer with Raiz FCU, said she hopes for this program to grow in the next couple of years.
“To grow our donation numbers, to double and triple in size, which I do see coming. And also, to have more sign-ups and more organizations in the future, more nonprofits that we would love to support. That’s where we are headed,” Contreras said.
Raiz tells us the success of raising over $188,000 highlights the collective effort of Raiz FCU and its members.
