EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A ride malfunctioned at the Big El Paso Fair over the weekend at Ascarate Park, but no one was hurt and “no one was in any danger,” said an official with the fair.
The ride malfunctioned with a hydraulic issue and the built-in safety features in the ride immediately stopped it, said Stephen White, the advertising and marketing manager for the Big El Paso Fair.
“The safety protocols were followed. Everyone got off the ride very safely. There was never anyone in danger at all,” White said.
“These are mechanical devices and when something goes wrong, again there are safety features built into the ride that will stop the ride. In this case everything worked properly, and no one was in any danger whatsoever,” White said.
The Big El Paso Fair will run through April 28.
The rides are continually inspected and tested, White said.
The ride that had the mechanical issue will not be operated again until it is “fully repaired, inspected and tested,” he said.
“We are here for two more weeks. We expect great crowds out here,” White said. “I would feel very safe to have my grandkids out here riding rides, having fun, and knowing they are inspected. They are tested with a dry run each day as well.”
