EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — If you travel along New Mexico Highway 28 to get back and forth between El Paso and Las Cruces, you will encounter a detour and possible delays in the coming week.
Starting at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, NM 28 will be closed from milepost 11.0 (NM 226, Berino Road) to milepost 7.9 (NM 186, West Ohara Road) for a culvert pipe replacement, which will take place at milepost 10.1, just north of Chamberino, the New Mexico Department of Transportation said.
A detour will be in place for both directions using NM 478 to connect NM 226 (Berino Road) and NM 186 (Ohara Road). The closure is expected to last approximately three days, with NM 28 reopening on Thursday, Sept. 5.
This closure is necessary for the safety of both travelers and construction workers, NMDOT said. Motorists are used to use caution in the area.
