KTSM News – Rough Edge EDC: RoseCraft fixed blade has everyday carry vibe

Posted on June 28, 2025

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – RoseCraft Blades has a new fixed-blade offering that checks off a lot of boxes for being a solid everyday carry option.

The Tennessee-based knife company is well-known for its traditional slipjoint knives. It also makes nice modern knives that fly under the radar with many knife collectors, but not this guy. Love RCB’s moderns.

Right around Memorial Day weekend, RoseCraft launched its first fixed-blade offerings – a set of four knives.

Readers of this space may remember that we already profiled one of those knives – the F2, a 9-inch knife with an upturned blade. My verdict: Perfect knife for a cookout or a camping trip, but maybe a bit large to strap to my hip.

Let’s take a look at another fixed-blade knife from RoseCraft – the F1.

The first thing that really pops out is the solid, full-tang construction of the knife. It just feels sturdy in hand.

Note: Full tang means the blade steel extends all the way through the handle. That centuries-old method of knife making has an excellent reputation for creating strong, resilient knives.

The 4-inch-long blade is made of 1095 carbon steel, which is known for being easy to sharpen. The downside of carbon steel is it can rust, if you don’t care for it properly.

To make these fixed-blade knives easier to care for, RoseCraft coated the blades. This one comes with a dark gray PVD coating.

The idea is to emphasize the positive about carbon steel – its ease of sharpening, while helping to protect the blade.

The blade also has a slight upward ramp on its spine to place your thumb and three different areas with jimping. That allows you to choke up and gain greater control for whatever cutting tasks you may need to tackle.

Adding to the comfort and ease of this knife is a finger choil that also allows you to choke up and get all your fingers around the handle with ease.

The handle is 4.2 inches long and is made out of G10. The outside part of the handle is OD (olive drab) green. The G10 is done so well that it almost looks like micarta with some grains or waves in it.

The handle also has a red G10 liner that gives it a pop of color if you drop it while working outside.

The handle also has a slight bow or bend to it which allows your hand to grip the knife in a very natural way.

Another couple of things about this knife – the handles can be disassembled so you can clean the knife easily if you use it for skinning or cooking.

It also has a cool little lanyard hole.

This knife weighs 5.7 ounces, which gives it some good heft. It also comes with a universal mount Kydex sheath.

This knife is slightly smaller than the F2 which I looked at earlier – 9 inches for the F2 and 8.25 inches for the F1.

But the F1 feels much more like an everyday carry knife that you can strap to your side or throw into your truck.

The RoseCraft F1 lists for $61.99 on the RoseCraft website. Here is a link to the RoseCraft homepage and to its collection of fixed-blade knives.

You can get 10 percent off when ordering from the RoseCraft website by using the code BIGREDEDC from my friend JB at Big Red EDC.

Note: I did not pay for this knife. I got to look at it for about a week as a participant in the RoseCraft pass-around group.
