KTSM News – Rough Edge EDC: SRM lives up to ‘Stay Ready for More’ mantra

Posted on October 23, 2025

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – One of the best things about being an EDC, or everyday carry, enthusiast is discovering new gear and new brands.

That helps to make the hobby a continuing adventure.

It’s especially gratifying when you find something that checks off some of your personal preference “boxes” too.

Recently have been carrying around a little beast of an EDC pocket knife – the SRM Knife and Tools Cub.

SRM stands for “Stay Ready for More” and this little knife lives up to that mantra.

The version of the Cub I have been checking out – as a loaner from Big Red EDC – is all black with a laminated blade.

The whole look is super stylish, but it is also a workhorse for a small knife, featuring a utilitarian Wharncliffe blade that came screaming sharp out of the box.

The blade is made with two layers of steel and has what I would describe as a mini-Damascus-type look with a decorative squiggly line across the bottom part of the blade.

The laminated blade is made out of what the company calls 140CR steel.

SRM says that using two layers of this steel gives it the characteristics of S35VN steel, which is a high-end steel with excellent edge retention, wear resistance and toughness.

The blade also has some jimping close to the pivot end and is a perfect place to park your thumb when choking up.

Adding to the versatility of this little bad boy is a finger choil which can be used for further control when needing to do tight or precise work.

Had alluded to this earlier, but this is a smallish knife.

The blade measures in at 2.87 inches. The knife is just a tad over 7 inches when open and weighs in at a featherweight 2.64 ounces.

While this knife is small in dimensions, it feels like a workhorse.

SRM says the Cub is a “precise EDC knife for daily tasks, a sturdy folding hunting knife for outdoor pursuits or a dependable tool for work and adventure.”

To me, I don’t think SRM is overselling the Cub. It is a versatile daily carry knife with a sturdy feel for its somewhat diminutive size.

The handle is made from black G10 and has small grain texturing throughout, giving it a grippy feel. The handle also has a slight downward bow to it and two subtle indentations.

Your mileage may vary, but this knife fits my hand quite nicely.

Altogether, the black handle and black blade give this knife a stylish look for a little work knife.

The only bit of color is the decorative squiggly line on the blade, some small SRM billboarding on the blade and the company logo on the pivot, all in white.

The knife can be opened using a thumb hole or by using what the company calls an “ambi lock,” which is SRM’s version of a crossbar lock.

The knife flies open using either method. I prefer the thumb hole.

The ambi lock secures the blade when open and allows for easy one-handed closing. Perfect for a little work knife.

Additionally, the knife comes with a black back spacer that doubles as a lanyard hole.

The ultra deep carry clip is reversible, giving this knife another element of usefulness and versatility.

Verdict: From everything I have said earlier, you can tell I like this knife, like it alot.

I am an avid collector with lots of friends in the knife world. I get to check out a lot of knives.

This knife is among the top I have seen all year.

Just love the whole package – small size, great action, useful blade and beautiful all-black look.

Love this knife so much I am bummed I have to send it back to my friend JB at Big Red EDC who loaned it to me to share with our readers here at KTSM.com.

The version I have been carrying around is listed at $68.95 on the SRM website.

This knife also comes in three other flavors – laminated blade with green G10 handles ($68.95), bead-blasted 154CM blade with black G10 handles ($73.95) and black-coated 154CM blade with OD green G10 ($75.95).

Here is a link to the knife featured in this column, to the entire SRM Cub collection and to the SRM homepage.
