EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Village of Ruidoso is urging residents to be cautious after potential floodwaters passed the area on Thursday afternoon, June 26.
According to the Village of Ruidoso’s Facebook post, rapidly rising floodwaters were reported in the back of the Upper Canyon area and could cause landslides.

The Village of Ruidoso said the worst of the rain has moved through the area, but residents will continue to see light showers throughout the day.
The Ruidoso Community Center is available for residents needing temporary refuge. The center is located at 501 Sudderth Dr., and you can call (575) 257-4565 for more information.
Additionally, the National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning earlier today for the Blue 2, South Fork, and McBride burn scars, according to the Village of Ruidoso.
The Doppler radar indicated that thunderstorms will be producing heavy rain and are expected to produce rainfall rates of 1-2 inches for 1 hour, the Village of Ruidoso said.
Furthermore, the Village of Ruidoso said the flood watch will remain in effect until 9 p.m.
The following roads are closed and will be cleared as soon as the water recedes, the Village of Ruidoso said:
- Country Club at Sudderth
- Gavilan Canyon from Mechem to Sutton
- Cedar Creek Road
- Ebarb
Officials urge residents not to:
- Drive through flood waters
- Attempt to cross flooded roads
- Drive around barricades
According to the Village of Ruidoso, 6 inches of water will reach the bottom of most passenger cars, causing loss of control. Turn around, don’t drown.
