EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Ruidoso, New Mexico, area is under a flash flood warning until 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, according to the Village of Ruidoso Facebook page.
“This is a dangerous and life-threatening situation. Do not attempt to travel unless you are fleeing an area subject to flooding or under an evacuation order,” the Village of Ruidoso said.
Ruidoso Municipal Schools is going into a shelter-in-place for what it’s calling a “level 2 flood warning,” according to the district’s Facebook page.
“This means students and staff will remain on campus until conditions allow for safe travel,” the post stated. “Parents or authorized contacts may pick up their children during a flood warning.”
Ruidoso and the Mescalero Apache areas were ravaged by two large wildfires this summer and then subsequent flash flooding.
The Ruidoso Boys and Girls Club has also closed because of forecasted weather conditions, the school district said.
We will update this story with any new information.
