EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – An inaugural run will be held Sunday morning in Downtown las Cruces to commemorate the life and legacy of Darian Jarrott, a fallen New Mexico State Police officer who was shot and killed in 2021 in the line of duty.
The Darian Jarrott Memorial Run, along with a walk, will begin at 10 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, at Las Cruces City Hall, located at 700 N. Main St., according to a news release sent by the Las Cruces Police Department (LCPD).
The run will start at City Hall and will circle Downtown Las Cruces three times utilizing Water Street and Church Street. Participants who wish to walk will circle downtown just once.
LCPD says the 3.30-mile run, which coincides with Jarrott’s call sign of 330, will conclude at the Roberto V. Estrada Pavilion on Plaza de Las Cruces.
Both the run and walk are free for all who wish to participate. Participants can meet at Plaza de Las Cruces. The run is anticipated to conclude about 10:45 a.m., according to LCPD.
Additionally, Jarrott was shot and killed Feb. 4, 2021, while conducting a traffic stop on Interstate 10 east of Deming, N.M. The suspect led law enforcement on a miles-long pursuit that ended on I-10 in Las Cruces.
