EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Gadsden Independent School District will be holding a press conference Thursday morning, Sept. 5, after Santa Teresa Middle School was placed under “secure status” due to a security concern, according to the Gadsden Independent School District (GISD).
GISD says the school was placed on a secure status earlier Thursday morning and parents were asked to keep their children at home until further notice. For students who were already on buses or on campus, parents were asked to not come to the school building.
“At that time, there was no immediate danger to students or staff, and all students on campus were safe. We worked closely with law enforcement throughout the morning to monitor the situation and ensure the safety of everyone on campus,” GISD said.
Superintendent Travis Dempsey will be holding a press conference at 10 a.m. at the Gadsden
Administrative Center, located at 4950 McNutt Road.
