EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — San Elizario native and professional soccer superstar Ricardo Pepi came back to his hometown to give presents to the children at the El Paso Children’s Hospital on Thursday, Dec. 26.
“I’m just here to give back to the community a little bit, just put a smile on these kids’ faces. At the end of the day, they’re my heroes. They are the reason why I wake up every single day with a lot of energy and a lot of motivation because I know they’re the first ones to be able to fight back. I just wanted to give something back to them,” Pepi said.
Pepi is a forward with the PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands and with the USA Men’s National team. He made his debut with USMNT on Sept. 8, 2021, in the World Cup qualifier game against Honduras.
Pepi brought the holiday spirit to distribute toys to the patients and joined them in some holiday activities.
“I’ve been blessed to be able to be here standing. What I want to take out of this day, is that I want the kids to be happy. I think that’s the most important thing. They fight battles every single day and I want to thank them for staying strong, give them more motivation to be able to continue to fight,” Pepi said.
