EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A group of undocumented migrants entered Santa Teresa Middle School on Wednesday morning, March 20, and the campus was placed on secure protocol, according to the Gadsden Independent School District.
The school district says migrants entered the southern section of the campus and the principal used a safety app to report the activity.
The school was also placed on a secure status with the instruction to “get inside and lock outside doors,” according to the school district.
The middle school remained in secure protocol until the area was deemed safe and the Sunland Park Police Department had two officers remain on campus to ensure the safety of the students.
The principal also used a text messaging system to inform the community about the issue and notified them when the secure status was lifted.
“We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the U.S. Border Patrol agents and the officers of the Sunland Park Police Department for their swift and professional response to this situation.
Thanks to their efforts, the safety and security of our students and staff were maintained
throughout the incident,” the school district said.
