EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Canutillo Independent School District Board of Trustees voted to appoint Canutillo volunteer and parent Sergio Martinez to fill Blanca Trout’s seat on Tuesday, Nov. 19.
Martinez, who finished right behind Trout in the Nov. 5 election, will be sworn in during the board’s December meeting.
Martinez will serve for two years and must seek election to an unexpired two-year term in 2026 if he wishes to remain on the board, the school district said.
As we have previously reported, Blanca Trout opted not to serve on the board after being elected on Nov. 5.
The school district says they accepted Trout’s resignation letter forgoing her right to drive after being elected, which triggered the vacancy spot on the board.
“I am humbled at the opportunity to serve the Canutillo community that has given so much to me and my family,” Martinez said. “I look forward to joining the rest of the Board and working toward helping the district meet its goals as it continues to grow.”
