EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A 28-year-old man was arrested over the weekend after he failed to stop for deputies and tried to evade them, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said.
Erick Mireles, 28, was arrested on Sunday, June 8 and is facing a charge of evading arrest or detention with a vehicle, the Sheriff’s Office said. His bond was set at $50,000.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies were taking part in a crime suppression operation when they tried to stop a vehicle that was driving without headlights.
The driver failed to stop and tried to flee from deputies at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday, the Sheriff’s Office said. The vehicle was eventually stopped along the 8700 block of Dyer Street in Northeast El Paso.
Mireles, the driver, was taken into custody without further incident, the Sheriff’s Office said.
“Evading from deputies will not be tolerated,” Sheriff Oscar Ugarte said. “If you refuse to stop,
you’re not just risking your own life — you’re putting others in danger. We will arrest you, and you will be held accountable.”
