EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Some students and staff at Del Valle High School were temporarily evacuated Friday morning, Sept. 6 after the smell of natural gas was detected at the school, Ysleta Independent School District said in a statement.
The incident happened just before 11 a.m. Friday when the smell of gas was detected in the school’s Fine Arts area, the district said. Districrt workers were doing routine gas-line maintenance when the smell was detected.
Students and staff were evacuated from the building out of an “abundance of caution,” the district said.
El Paso Fire and Texas Gas Service cleared students and staff to return to the building at about 11:45 a.m. and classes resumed as normal.
“Please be assured that safety remains the No. 1 priority at Ysleta ISD; students remained safe and under adult supervision throughout this incident,” the district said.
