The competition consisted of several rounds. During each round, students were given a math problem and had to answer it correctly within the designated time, according to Socorro ISD.
Socorro ISD says that to advance to the next round, students had to use mental math and number sense strategies to correctly solve three facts.
The student with the highest number of correct answers from each grade level was declared the winner.
“During the first semester of school, students practice math in their classroom to prepare for the contest. In the second semester, they compete with their grade-level peers at the school’s Campus Math Bee to determine the first-place winner,” according to Socorro ISD. “Each school’s first place winner then represent their campus at the District Math Bee. At the District Math Bee, each campus representative competes to become the District Math Bee Champion for their grade level.”
