EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Socorro Independent School District held a Celebration Day for medically fragile students to participate in various skills and sensory activities.
Celebration Day, a sensory-based experience for students, took place on Friday, May 9, at the small gym at Americas High School, 12101 Pellicano Dr.
According to the news release by Socorro ISD, Celebration Day allows students who are “medically fragile and dependent on a wheelchair” to participate in activities and experiences based on their individual strengths.
This year’s Celebration Day theme was “Under the Big Top,” a circus-themed event that students participated in dressing up to fit the theme.
The students participated in different activities, with the help of teachers, adaptive physical education coaches and therapists.
Some of the activities were a sensory tunnel and Paws for Love pet therapy, which included three dog teams to visit the students, according to Socorro ISD.
In addition, community health agencies provided information to families.
Families and students were also able to enjoy games, prizes, a photo booth, music and food.
