EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The El Paso Chamber will flash the iconic Star on the Mountain 23 times beginning at 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3 to remember the sixth anniversary of the Aug. 3, 2019 Walmart shooting.
Twenty-three people were murdered that day in a targeted racist attack and more than 20 others were wounded and carry mental and physical scars to this day.
“El Paso continues to persevere, drawing strength from our shared grief and the compassion we extend to one another. As we reflect on the impact of that day, we also recognize the enduring spirit that defines our region. We are a community rooted in love, resilience, and cultural pride,” the Chamber said.
After the ceremony, the Star will remain lit in orange throughout the night as a tribute to the victims and a call to raise awareness on the impact of gun violence.
“We encourage El Pasoans to join the remembrance by lighting their porches and windows in orange, symbolizing solidarity and a collective commitment to healing and peace,” the Chamber said.
