KTSM News – Star on Mountain will flash 23 times remembering Aug. 3 victims

Posted on August 2, 2024

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The El Paso Chamber will flash the Star on the Mountain 23 times on Saturday, Aug. 3 as a remembrance of the 23 people who died after the Walmart shooting on Aug. 3, 2019.

The El Paso Chamber says the star will begin flashing at 8:30 p.m. and the star will also be lit orange throughout the night, joining those who are planning on lighting their porches and windows to raise awareness on gun violence.

“On that day, our city endured a heartbreaking act of violence that left lasting wounds. Despite this, El Paso has shown remarkable resilience, finding strength and comfort in our shared support for one another. Through unity, we have reaffirmed our identity and pride in our culture and way of life. This lighting will serve as a tribute to their memory and a symbol of our enduring spirit,” the Chamber said.
