KTSM News – Stephanie Han scores first-round KO, wins WBA lightweight title

Posted on February 23, 2025

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — In the main event of Ring Wars 15, El Paso’s Stephanie Han knocked out Hannah Terlep in the first round of a scheduled 10-round bout to win the vacant World Boxing Association (WBA) lightweight title at the El Paso County Coliseum on Saturday night.

El Paso's Stephine Han defeats Colorado's Hannah Terlep for the WBA Lightweight World Championship title by way of knockout in the first round. She follows in her sister Jennifer's footsteps, who took it in 2015.

Han landed four powerful right hand shot in the last seconds of the round to send Terlep—the WBA’s No. 10 fighter in its lightweight division rankings—to the floor and end the fight.

“I was hoping for a knockout, but I wasn’t expecting one in the first round because I knew she was tough,” Stephanie Han said in her post-fight interview. “I got her with the right and I kept capitalizing on that right hand and I knew when she went down, she was done.”

With the win, Han improved to 10-0 (3 KOs) in her professional boxing career and secured her first world championship.

“I am so happy. I have trained so hard these past couple of years and when I found out I was going to fight for a title a couple of months ago, I trained like no other,” Han said. “I am so proud that all the hard work has paid off and now I can say that I am a world champion.”

Stephanie has followed the footsteps of her older sister, Jennifer, by becoming a boxing world champion.

Jennifer won the IBF featherweight title back in 2015. Almost a decade later, Jennifer’s younger sister has won a world title in the sport of boxing.

“I would not be here without my family,” Han said. “My family has been so supportive. I am a world champion, and this is all their success because they have helped me come to this point.”

Here are results of the rest of the fights on the Ring Wars 15 card on Saturday night.
