EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Suburb 21, a locally-owned family business in El Paso, offers a taste of Mexican street food with everything cooked to order.
Owner of the business, Hirem Pena, 28, who was born in Juarez, says he’s always had a dream to own his own restaurant, which led him to invest in Suburb 21 and spread the Mexican culture with El Pasoans.

The business started as a local food truck in 2019, and Pena opened up a location on Zaragoza in 2023, and ended up opening a second location on George Dieter this year.
Suburb 21 offers al pastor tacos, asada tacos, birria tacos, and tripita tacos, all with a baked potato. The business also offers steak quesadillas, pastor quesadillas, gringa de asada, gringa de pastor, birria ramen, and agua frescas.

Pena says all of the meat is fresh and cooked to order, and the soup for the birria tacos is also made in-house.
Pene says he’s received good feedback from the community and is thinking about opening up a location on the west side. Tell us if you think he should open a new location.
Suburb 21 is open from 9 a.m. through 12 a.m. from Monday through Friday.
