EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A 22-year-old man who is accused of kidnapping a teenage girl in Texas and then leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase is being held without bond until trial, the Sixth Judicial District Attorney’s Office in Deming said.
Kyle Eckmann, 22, is facing charges of kidnapping, abuse of child, bribery of a witness, aggravated assault upon a peace officer and aggravated fleeing from a law-enforcement officer, the DA’s Office said.
Back in August, Eckmann convinced a 15-year-old girl to meet him. Eckman then took her for three days through Texas and into New Mexico, the DA’s Office said.
The vehicle ended up in a high-speed chase with New Mexico State Police near Deming after the suspect’s license plate was identified through card reader technology.
Eckmann refused to stop when New Mexico State Police turned on their emergency lights. The suspect crossed over the median and across Interstate 10 to try to evade police, the DA’s Office said.
The suspect then crashed through a barbed wire fence, landing in about 3 feet of water, the DA’s Office said.
Eckmann got out of the crashed vehicle, claiming to have a gun and threatening to shoot the police. Police de-escalated the situation and Eckmann was taken into custody.
The teenage victim was not hurt in the crash and was returned to her parents.
Eckmann will be held until trial.
