KTSM News – Suspected gang member flees from troopers, prompts lockdown at CISD schools

Posted on April 10, 2025

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is searching for a suspected member of the Crucés Boyz gang after he prompted a lockdown at Lone Star, Canutillo, and Alderete schools as he was fleeing from troopers on Thursday afternoon, April 10, the department said.

‘Secure protocol’ lifted at Alderete MS, Canutillo ES

Shortly after 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, a Texas DPS trooper attempted to stop a white Ford Equinox for equipment and traffic violations on Interstate 10 near Mile Marker 3. After a brief pursuit, the trooper lost sight of the vehicle, DPS said.

DPS said that later, troopers found the abandoned vehicle in a desert area between the Outlet Shoppes at El Paso and Canutillo Elementary School.

Reports of two individuals running through school property led to lockdowns at Lone Star, Canutillo, and Alderete schools. The lockdown ended before 3 p.m. after troopers cleared the area, DPS said.

DPS said a bag found in the vehicle contained the driver’s ID identified as Esteban Acosta, 35, of Vado, New Mexico.

Acosta has an outstanding warrant for vehicle theft and now faces charges of evading arrest in El Paso County. He is also a suspected member of the Crucés Boyz gang, DPS said.

DPS said this investigation is ongoing.

If anyone has tips or knows the whereabouts of Acosta, contact DPS at (915) 849-4000.

DPS said not to attempt to apprehend this fugitive as he is considered armed and dangerous.
