KTSM News – Triple-Digit Heat Returns for the Weekend — Your 9-Day Forecast

Posted on July 11, 2024

The atmosphere stabilized nicely today. We saw a few isolated showers, but skies should clear up pretty early. Weather Watcher Andrew Luna sent in this incredible shot of lightning from the powerful storms two nights ago in the Pebble Hills and Saul Kleinfeld area of the east side. We are not likely to see scenes like that again until Tuesday night.

The official high today is 98. The record is 110 set in 1979. We have recorded 2.66 inches of rain at the airport so far this year, which is pretty close to the normal of 2.85 inches.

TONIGHT:  The skies will be partly cloudy with a few isolated, small showers early in the evening.  The atmosphere is far more stable than the last two nights, so we should expect the skies to turn clear late evening.  The low will drop to 74, and the SE winds will range from 5-10 mph.

FORECAST:  Friday will be hot and dry with a high of 100.  The SE winds will range from 5-15 mph, and the skies will be mostly sunny with just a few clouds.  Saturday will be a hotter day with a high of 102.  Expect lots of sunshine and hot breezes, and we should be storm free.  Sunday will be mostly sunny and hot as well with a high of 103. Monday will be partly cloudy and 100 with a slight chance of isolated late day t-storms.  Tuesday will be partly cloudy with a high of 99.  Expect a return of the scattered late day t-showers.  Wednesday will be partly to mostly cloudy with widely scattered t-showers and a high of 95.
