EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Trout Fire has reached close to 70 percent containment as fire activity has declined significantly due to recent weather conditions, the Southwest Area Complex Incident Management Team said on Friday morning, June 27.
The fire has stayed at 47,128 acres with 69 percent containment and under 1,000 personnel working on the fire. The cause of the fire was ruled to be lightning.
The incident management team says crews made substantial progress in reaching 69 percent containment on the fire on Thursday, June 26, and fire crews remain busy reinforcing control lines to protect nearby communities and natural resources.
“Today, firefighters are working to reinforce containment lines and extinguish any remaining heat near the fire’s edge, especially in heavier fuels near Black Peak. Crews also remain focused on key post-fire suppression priorities, including fireline rehabilitation, equipment backhaul, reseeding, and chipping. These coordinated efforts will continue through the weekend,” the incident management team said.
All evacuation orders for the fire were lifted on Thursday. Residents are asked to remain alert and stay informed, as flash flooding and debris flows may still pose a risk.
