KTSM News – U.S. Rep Veronica Escobar announces $19 million for community projects

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — U.S. Rep. Veronica Escobar, D-Texas, announced her office secured $19 million for Fiscal Year 2024 to be distributed county-wide among 15 El Paso community projects.

Here are the projects, their costs, and what they’ll be used for, according to the press release from Escobar’s Office.

Fort Bliss: Collective training barracks (planning and design)

Amount awarded: $7,200,000

Funding to be used to provide better housing and quality of life for the soldiers on Fort Bliss

University Medical Center of El Paso: Replacing aging emergency generator and adding solar capacity

Amount awarded: $1,383,069

Funding to be used to replace again generator and add power storage and solar capacity

City of Socorro: Rio Vista rehabilitation

Amount awarded: $1,050,000

Funding to be used to reuse the historic Rio Vista Farm for small business incubator, workforce, classrooms and community’s first public library

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers: El Paso County (EPWater flood warning system)

Amount awarded: $975,000

Funding to be used to develop the El Paso flood warning system to alert residents, businesses, planners and emergency responders about potential flooding

Town of Anthony: Police Department technology augmentation

Amount awarded: $963,000

Funding to be used for outdoor license plate recognition cameras to be placed in areas identified as high trafficking

National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining: Aerospace digital engineering research

Amount Awarded: $963,000

Funding to be used to initiate a research project to develop pathways using cutting edge research and innovation to produce mission-critical and flight-qualified components and sub-assemblies through the state-of-the-art digital engineering

Town of Anthony: Wastewater treatment plant

Amount awarded: $959,752

Funding to be used for upgrades and expansion of existing wastewater treatment plant

Town of Anthony: Arsenic treatment plant and associated raw & treated water pipelines

Amount awarded: $959,752

Funding to be used for final design and construction of a water treatment plant that will remove arsenic from Town’s potable groundwater supply

Lower Valley Water District: Gateway West-Sparks water project

Amount Awarded: $850,000

Funding to be used for to construct a ground storage tank to hold 1 million gallons, a booster station and transmission lines to connect to existing lines.

City of El Paso: Terminal bridge reconstruction

Amount awarded: $850,000

Funding to be used to develop the terminal bridge reconstruction, including design and reconstruction which will serve as a primary exit from the El Paso International Airport

El Pasoans Fighting Hunger: El Pasoans Fighting Hunger West

Amount Awarded: $800,000

Funding to be used to construct a new permanent operations center in West El Paso

City of El Paso: Sun Metro micro-transit

Amount awarded: $720,000

Funding to be used to purchase a small fleet of electric micro-transit vehicles, charging infrastructure and appurtenances

County of El Paso: Rural Utility Service Vehicles

Amount awarded: $550,000

Funding to be used for new equipment, including four street box sweepers, five dump trucks, five truck tractors and four bulk waste loader trucks to facilitate the swift removal of dumped waste

Lower Valley Water District: Gateway West-Sparks Water Project

Amount Awarded: $500,000

Funding to be used for installations of new piping, connecting service lines, upgrading and replacing old service lines and installing new fire hydrants

City of El Paso: Business One-Stop (BOSS) facility acquisition and expansion

Amount awarded: $500,000

Funding to be used for new facility to house the BOSS program
