EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – A 47-year-old man is dead, and another was hurt following a head-on crash on Tuesday, May 27, in Socorro, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPCSO) said in a news release.
EPCSO said at 4:40 p.m. on Tuesday, the Socorro Police responded to a serious crash in the 1100 block of Horizon Boulevard.
Due to the severity of the incident, the EPCSO Special Traffic Investigations unit was requested and took over the investigation, EPCSO said.
EPCSO said preliminary findings indicate that a Kia was traveling south on Horizon Boulevard when the driver, later identified as Marco Jimenez, 47, began changing lanes erratically.
Jimenez lost control and crossed the raised median into the northbound lanes, resulting in a head-on collision with a Ford pickup truck, EPCSO said.
EPCSO said Jimenez was taken to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries. The driver of the pickup truck was also transported, but with non-life-threatening injuries.
The investigation is ongoing.
