EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — An unidentified pedestrian who was lying in the roadway was struck and killed early Tuesday morning, June 10 along U.S. 54 in Northeast El Paso, El Paso Police said.
Just before 4 a.m., police were called out to a crash involving a pedestrian along U.S. 54 South near Ellerthorpe.
When police arrived, they found dead man in the roadway.
Special Traffic Investigators were called out to the scene.
The preliminary investigation showed that a vehicle was traveling south on U.S. 54 when the driver saw a man lying down in the road and swerved to avoid the pedestrian.
He was unable to do so, police said. The driver contacted police after the crash.
Police continue to investigate the case.
This is the 27th traffic fatality in the City limits compared to 29 at the same time last year.
