EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — UTEP invites alumni, students, faculty, staff, and others to attend homecoming celebrations this week.
Homecoming week has kicked off with UTEP’s Miner Dash and will include a pep rally, reunions, and a tailgate party.
The celebration started on Sunday, Sept. 21, with the 15th annual Miner Dash 5K Run/3K Walk. UTEP held its Miner Morning Mania on Monday, Sept. 22, where its marching band, cheer and dance teams, Paydirt Pete, the Student Government Association, and the Department of Athletics came together to celebrate.
UTEP will then hold its annual Homecoming pep rally on Thursday, Sept. 25, on the second floor of the Union Building East.
Golden Grads will have events throughout the week. For more information on gatherings specific to alumni generations, click here.
The UTEP Alumni Association will host a pregame party in the GR-2 parking lot outside the Sun Bowl Stadium from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27.
The public can join in, and tickets, which include food and drinks, can be found here.
To close out Homecoming week, UTEP’s Football team will take on the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs at 7 p.m. on Saturday at the Sun Bowl Stadium. Game tickets are available here.
The “Mining Minds” pickaxe sculpture at UTEP’s Sun Bowl-University roundabout will be illuminated in blue and orange beginning Sunday, Sept. 21, through Saturday, Sept. 27.
“Mining Minds” is an iconic piece of public art installed in 2010 to enhance the UTEP campus. At night, orange lights illuminate the steel structure while light from LEDs emanates from the perforated “ones” and “zeroes” at each end of the pick. On special occasions, including historic dates, major annual milestones, and to celebrate special accomplishments, the pick is illuminated in blue and orange.
