KTSM News – Vigil to be held for man killed in 3-vehicle crash in Northeast El Paso

Posted on January 20, 2025

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – A candlelight vigil will be held on Monday evening, Jan. 20 for the man who was killed in a three-vehicle crash that happened last week in Northeast El Paso.

Man stopped at red light killed in rear-end crash

The vigil will be held for Cody Vaughn, 31, at 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 20 at Joey Barraza and Vino Memorial Park, 11270 McCombs St.

Vaughn was the owner of MG Foster Home and Pet Services, a nonprofit organization that focused on pet rescue.

The nonprofit was established in 2022 and closed last year, according to the nonprofit’s Facebook page.

“Cody was not only my pet sitter, but a great light to our family and so many others in his tireless time for animal advocacy,” the vigil host, Kim Garner, said.

Garner said attendees are encouraged to bring towels, dog food, toys, cleaning supplies, and blankets for the dogs in the shelters.

City Rep. Cynthia Boyar Trejo is expected to attend the vigil. Boyar Trejo represents Northeast El Paso on the council.

“Our goal is to continue to shine the light on this young man. Individuals will want to bring their own candles,” Garner said.

As we previously reported, Vaughn, 31, was killed at 7 a.m. Sunday, Jan 12, when he was involved in a three-vehicle crash at Gateway North and Sean Haggerty, El Paso Police said.

El Paso Police said Vaughn was stopped at the red light on Gateway North when a pickup truck rear-ended Vaughn’s vehicle.

The crash caused both vehicles to travel into the intersection where Vaughn was hit by another vehicle. He died at the scene, El Paso Police said.

A GoFundMe was created to help support Vaughn’s family in their time of grief. You can donate here.
