KTSM News – Vince Perez in early lead in House District 77

Posted on March 5, 2024

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Former County Commissioner Vince Perez is in the early lead in the Democratic race for House District 77 after early voting results were announced at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 5.

Perez has 42.64 percent of the votes or 2,313 votes, followed by former state Rep. Norma Chavez, who represented the district from 1997 to 2011. Chavez has 31.30 percent of the votes or 1,698 votes.

Former City Rep. Alexsandra Annello is in third with 20.09 percent or 1,090 votes. Businessman Homer Reza has 5.97 percent or 324 votes.

With state Rep. Lina Ortega deciding not to run for re-election in House District 77, a trio of well-known Democrats and a local businessman are running to succeed her.

No Republican is running, so the winner will automatically be elected to serve starting in 2025 and will serve a two-year term.
