EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A man wanted on a warrant for allegedly being a felon in possession of a firearm was arrested by Socorro Police during a traffic stop on Monday, Jan. 27, they said.
Officers from the Socorro Police Department pulled over a pickup truck just before 12:30 p.m. Monday in the area of Liahona Drive and North Loop Drive.
During the stop, police determined that the driver, 28-year-old Aaron Rosales, was wanted by Socorro Police for being a felon in possession of a gun.
Officers also discovered that Rosales was in possession of a handgun during the traffic stop. He was taken into custody on the outstanding warrant and the additional charge of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. He was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility, with bonds totaling $125,000.
“The possession of firearms by convicted felons represents a clear threat to public safety. Addressing these offenses is critical to fostering a safer environment for all residents,” said Socorro Police Chief Robert C. Rojas.
